Foundation House Ministries has been awarded a $790,000 Tennessee Strong Families Grant.

In 2023, Governor Bill Lee dedicated $20 million towards improving access to maternal healthcare and boosting critical resources for families by supporting local nonprofits across the state, including pregnancy centers.

"Foundation House Ministries is the only maternity home for 150 miles serving mothers exiting a crisis lifestyle. The grant will be paid out over three years. Foundation House Ministries also just celebrated a record-breaking spring banquet fundraiser," officials said.

In a statement regarding the grant program, Governor Lee said, “Strong families are central to strong communities, and we’re proud to partner with the General Assembly to prioritize resources for local partners that serve Tennesseans in need.”

Foundation House Executive Director Suzanne Burns said, “We are so grateful.

This huge state grant will double our efforts and allow us to serve even more mothers in crisis throughout our region. It is truly amazing. And our donors just helped us raise the most money ever at our Celebration Banquet. So much to be thankful for.”

Ms. Burns said the grant does have restrictions, so fundraising for the nonprofit that provides a safe home, life skills workshops and on-the-job training to mothers seeking to break the chains of addiction and generational poverty is still a top priority.

Officials said, "Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Foundation House has served over 120 mothers through housing and over 600 mothers through non-residential support services. Roughly 70 percent of Foundation House clients arrive with no GED or high school diploma and most of them have little job experience. Eighty-nine percent are former drug addicts and 85 percent were raised in chronic poverty. Foundation House prepares their clients for sustainable independent living physically, emotionally and spiritually."

The nonprofit also runs a thrift store, Good Foundations, at 258 Broad St. NW in Cleveland. Foundation House has many volunteer opportunities. If interested in this or making a donation, visit FoundationHouseMinistries.org for sign up opportunities and a donation link.
