David George Freye, affectionately known as Dave, passed away April 25th, 2024 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dave was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Marilyn and Robert Freye on May 15th, 1951.

Dave graduated Sheboygan South High School in 1969. He was a proud star athlete in basketball and swimming. He then furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where he earned his bachelor’s of science degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, Dave earned his master’s degree in Business Administration and Finance at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. His career was marked by dedication and excellence; he worked as an electrical engineer for Stone & Webster followed by Tennessee Valley Authority – Brown’s Ferry, Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant, and Chattanooga’s Corporate Office.

Dave was a devoted father and loving husband, and married the love of his life, Debbie, on August 15th, 1989. Together, they built a family and beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. Dave’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Debbie; his children, Jacquelyn (Johannes) Strattner and Christopher (Kylie) Freye, his sister Terri (Bob), and brothers Phil (Diana) and Jeff, dogs Bella and Chester, nieces, nephews, and his wide circle of lifelong friends.

Dave was an avid traveler, loved the outdoors, and was commonly known as “The Handy Man” tackling any and all projects. He enjoyed spending his time fishing in Sabourin Lake in Manitoba, Canada, wood working in his basement, sailing on Lake Michigan, motorcycling, or enjoying time with his family on Dog Island and St. George Island, Florida.

Dave was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Augustine Parish, and he enjoyed giving back to his community. He brought his warmth, wisdom, humor, and joy everywhere he went, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

To honor Dave’s life, visitation will be held on April 28, from 5–7 p.m., with the funeral services to follow on Monday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine Church on Signal Mountain. Dave will be laid to rest at St. Augustine Columbarium on Signal Mountain. A reception will follow at St. Augustine church, where stories will be shared and memories cherished.
