Kelli Johnson

The April WoodSongs Dalton Concert will feature Nashville singer songwriter Kelli Johnson.

Review for Kelli Johnson:

Growing up in North Alabama, Kelli was immersed in a rich musical stew of bluegrass, country, Motown, Southern Rock, a gospel, and pop. Her musical roots coupled with powerhouse vocals, and award winning songwriting have allowed her to develop a distinctive style all her own. Her songs have been recorded by independent and major label artists and have also been featured in national television commercials and independent films.

She has toured as a solo artist and with the bands Distant Cousins and Sweetwater Road, and she also performs as a duo with multi-instrumentalist Barry Waldrep. As a performer, Kelli has performed on Music City Roots, PBS, APT, The Dugger Mountain Music Hall Show, and The Phil Mack International Country Music Show. She has opened for Sugarland, Restless Heart, Wet Willie, Rodney Crowell, and Marty Raybon and has toured with Grammy Winning Artist John Berry. She was also a featured artist on Barry Waldrep’s 2021 Tony Rice Tribute Album, alongside Vince Gill, John Berry, Marty Raybon, John Cowan and Emmylou Harris.

Opening for Johnson will be regional band Spatial Effects, a bluegrass band with two and three-fourths music degrees and three award winning songwriters. Over the years Spatial Effects has performed at numerous venues throughout the south, including Chattanooga’s River Bend Festival, Night Fall, the Alabama Egg Festival, the Dalton Creative Arts Guild Festival, county fairs, and too many churches to even begin to count. The band has also opened for several national touring bands, including The Claire Lynch Band, The Becky Buller Band, The Lovell Sisters and Goose Creek Symphony.

This regionally acclaimed concert series features emerging and established performers and will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Dalton. The concert series is sponsored in part by the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau, Arb’s Insurance, Engineered Floors, and numerous local sponsors. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. and the doors will be open at 1:30 p.m.

The concert will benefit the DEO Clinic. Now in its 19th year, the non-profit medical clinic has provided thousands of office visits to the low income uninsured residents of Whitfield and Murray Counties. DEO receives no state or federal government financial support and depends on grants and the generosity of local donors and businesses. Contributions from each concert will be matched up to $2,500 by Modern Woodmen of America. Concert goers are also asked to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item for the Little Pantry maintained by the First Presbyterian Church. The Little Pantry benefits individuals who are experiencing food insecurity.

The First Presbyterian Church is at 101 S. Selvidge St. in Dalton. Advance tickets are $20; at the door $24. Limited seating, advance tickets strongly advised. Advance tickets are available at the Dalton Freight Depot, Bigham Discount Music, the DEO Clinic, the Ice Castle, and online at: http://woodsongsdalton.com/
