Covenant Track And Field Competes At Cole Piper Open

In its final regular season meet, the Covenant College track and field team competed in the Cole Piper Open. You could say it was a successful day as three Covenant student-athletes finished first in their event. 

For the second week in a row, Emma Christensen is bringing home silverware as she finished first place in the 100m with a time of 13.13. The junior also finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 10.12m, which breaks her own school record.  Sarah Holler won the Pole Vault event with a jump of 2.60m.

The Scots final first-place finisher of the afternoon was Lydia Dorman in the 1500m with a time of 5:04.31. Evangelia Berry (third, 5:18.28), Claire Mellott (seventh, 5.18.28), Emerson Tillery (eighth, 5:49.26), and Kali Hina (11th, 6:11.39) also raced in the 1500m. Mellott's time is listed as a personal record and she also placed 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:49.03. 

Daehla Smith started her day with a second-place result in the 400m with a time of 1:05.81. She also placed sixth in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.20m.  Anna Dolan placed second in the 3k with a time of 14:26.14. In the Discus event, Emily Lane broke her own school record with a throw of 35.76m to finish third place. Sophia Wiersema broke a school record in the Shot Put with a throw of 10.22m to finish third. She also did the Discus and posted a throw of 26.91m.

On the men's side, Alex Burns started it off for the Scots with a personal-record time of 53.57 in the 400m to place seventh. Josiah Mellott led five Covenant runners in the 1500m with a time of 4:14.14. Ethan Saiki (ninth, 4:16.39), Ethan Caswell (13th, 4:19.13), Chandler Lines (15th, 4:19.64), and John Purtill (19th, 4:30.13) also raced in the 1500m. 

Will Holland posted a time of 17:43.66 in the 5k to finish fourth. Cheney Byrd threw in the Discus and finished 10th with a throw of 34.09m. He also placed 12th in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.43m.
Riley Everett had the second-longest throw in school history in the Shot Put with a throw of 12.39m to finish third. Karsten Halvorson also competed in the Shot Put and registered a throw of 9.86m to finish 11th. 

Covenant competes in the CCS Outdoor Championships back at Maryville May 7th-8th.
